asics Greenville Track Club-ELITE - a post-collegiate, Olympic development program
ASICS Greenville Track Club-ELITE's Austin Steagall ran to victory in the 44th annual Gene Mullin Invitational conducted on the Furman University cross country course. While many of his teammates were traveling to USA road championships (10-Mile in Minneapolis & Women's 10K in Boston), Steagall ran the 5K cross country event instead of doing a Saturday morning workout solo. He ran with the lead pack, which included Furman standout Aaron Templeton who is redshirting this XC season. Both runners had broken away and established a sizable lead after the second loop of three. The two ran side-by-side for much of the final 600 meters before Steagall opened up a slight gap by the top of the final hill. Steagall finished with a time of 15:24 to Templeton's 15:28 over the historic terrain that has hosted two NCAA National Championships and over 25 NCAA Regional Championships.
GTC-ELITE produced four qualifiers for the 2016 USA Olympic Trials Marathon in Los Angeles and is sponsored by ASICS, the 44-year-old Greenville Track Club, Performance Therapy, Greenville Health System, ScanSource, Soleus Running Watches, Boston Bill Sunglasses, Roll Recovery, FinalSurge, Joy Real Estate, The TD Bank Foundation, The Kroc Center, Carolina Spine and Rehab, The ATI Running Academy, ElliptiGO, the Bare Minimum Track Club and generous individual contributors.
