Cristina McKnight never ran competitively in high school or in college at Michigan State University. However, she became serious about running following graduation and eventually ran 1:18:21 for the half marathon. Although that time did not meet the ASICS GTC-ELITE qualifying standards, the coaches decided to accept her into the program, due to her upside potential with more formal training. After relocating to Greenville from Cincinnati, OH, she began to show improvement and ran 1:16:40 at the Eugene Half Marathon in Oregon. She proceeded to run shorter distance events that she had not run before and soon ran 28:08 for 8K. She placed 9th at the 2019 Great Cow Harbor 10K in Northport, NY with a personal best of 35:37. She then ran another personal best at the Indianapolis Monumental Half Marathon with a time of 1:16:04 as part of the prep for December's California International Marathon. In Sacramento, she ran 2:40:41 in her debut attempt at the distance to qualify for the 2020 USA Olympic Team Trials Marathon in Atlanta. She dropped an impressive 3 minutes 53 seconds over 15K as she broke the South Carolina State record in winning the MCG Long Run in Columbia, SC in February as a tune-up before the Olympic Trials. In Atlanta, she ran a personal best of 2:40:29 over the very challenging course in windy conditions to place 49th. Following the Trials, she bought out the remainder of her contract as she decided to relocate to Boulder, CO and join the development program of Roots Running. While with ASICS GTC-ELITE Cristina ran personal records in all nine of the competitions she completed.
