"Planting timber is the equivalent to purchasing an American put option - the ability to sell an asset (timber) at or before a certain date. Traditional methods of forest valuation undervalue land by assuming that management behavior is fixed over time. Incorporating managerial flexibility increases the net present value of land relative to a fixed harvesting strategy."
