asics Greenville Track Club-ELITE - a post-collegiate, Olympic development program
ASICS Greenville Track Club ELITE's Austin Steagall returned to the track at Lewis & Clark College five days after competing in the Portland Track Festival to run the Stumptown Twilight meet. Once again running in the 3000-meter Steeplechase, Steagall improved 12 seconds from last Sunday and ran a personal best of 8:50.58. His previous best was 8:55.46, which was set at the 2016 NCAA DII Championships where he placed second.
Running more conservatively than on Sunday, where he led the first four laps, he followed the early leaders and moved from fifth to third over the final two laps. He finished behind former UCLA runner Austin O'Neill's 8:45.69 and second placer Lucas Updike's 8:50.17.
This race completed Austin's first season with the post-collegiate program, in which Austin set personal bests for the mile (4:05), 3,000 meters indoors (8:04) and 5,000 meters (13:58) and now the 3000-meter Steeplechase (8:50.58).
GTC-ELITE produced four qualifiers for the 2016 USA Olympic Trials Marathon in Los Angeles and is sponsored by ASICS, the 45-year-old Greenville Track Club, Greenville Health System, ScanSource, Joy Real Estate, the Bare Minimum Track Club, generous individual contributors and partnerships with Performance Therapy, Carolina Spine and Rehab, Soleus Running Watches, Boston Bill Sunglasses, Roll Recovery, FinalSurge, The ATI Running Academy, ElliptiGO, NormaTec Recovery Boots and Cocoa Elite recovery products.
