ASICS Greenville Track Club-ELITE's Eddie Garcia and Zach Mains placed first and second in their first competition since joining the post-collegiate program. Garcia's time winning time was 25:01 and Mains finished only a few seconds back of his teammate at 25:04. The Sunrise 8K is one of oldest running events in the South Carolina Upstate and is conducted in Simpsonville. This was the 39th running of the event. As its name implies the event starts exactly at sunrise, which was 6:16 am this year, and is produced by the 46-year-old Greenville Track Club.
Garcia is a graduate of the University of Florida and was the SEC 10K champion in 2015. Mains graduated from Pennsylvania's Lock Haven University in 2016. Both athletes recently relocated to Greenville to pursue their running goals. GTC-ELITE was established in 2012 and produced four qualifiers for the 2016 USA Olympic Trials Marathon in Los Angeles. The post-collegiate, Olympic development program is sponsored by ASICS, the 45-year-old Greenville Track Club, Greenville Health System, ScanSource, Joy Real Estate, the Bare Minimum Track Club, generous individual contributors and partnerships with Performance Therapy, Carolina Spine and Rehab, Boston Bill Sunglasses, Roll Recovery products, FinalSurge (on-line training log), The ATI Running Academy, ElliptiGO, NormaTec Recovery Boots, Cocoa Elite recovery products and Synergy Performance (mental performance).
