asics Greenville Track Club-ELITE - a post-collegiate, Olympic development program
ASICS Greenville Track Club-ELITE's Ricky Flynn ran 1:05:51 (5:02 per mile) to place third in Saturday's 36th annual Dam-to-Dam Half Marathon in Des Moines, Iowa. Flynn, who has a personal best of 1:03:44 for the distance, earned $1,000 for his performance as he used the race to test his fitness leading up to Grandma's Marathon on June 20 in Duluth, Minnesota.
One of the state's top tributes to running, Dam to Dam is a classic race. Starting in the country with a peaceful setting, the first part of the race represents Iowa’s best--cornfields beginning their journey toward harvest. After cresting a tough hill between 6 and 7 miles, the last part of the race is all city with traffic and concrete.
Flynn's time broke the previous course record of 1:06:37, set last year by Kenyan Sammy Rotich, as he placed only behind Fernando Cabada (1:04:41) and defending champion Rotich (1:04:50). Ricky covered the first 5 miles in 24:48 in sixth place and maintained that position through 10 miles (49:32) before moving up to third by the finish.
GTC-ELITE is sponsored by ASICS, the 43-year old Greenville Track Club, Performance Therapy, Greenville Health System's North Greenville Hospital, ScanSource, Soleus Running Watches, Boston Bill Sunglasses, The TD Bank Foundation, The Kroc Center, Carolina Spine and Rehab, The Proaxis Running Academy, ElliptiGO, the Bare Minimum Track Club and generous individual contributors.
