asics Greenville Track Club-ELITE - a post-collegiate, Olympic development program
ASICS Greenville Track Club-ELITE sent three athletes to the 5-Mile Historic Governor's Cup Road Race in Columbia, SC and earned two victories and one runner-up finish. Ricky Flynn returned to racing since recovering from a stress fracture in late May and ran 24:58 over the hilly route to win by over one minute and take home the $300 first prize. Teammates Nicole DiMercurio and Dylan Hassett finished first and second overall for the women. DiMercurio ran 27:48 for the win, earning $300. Hassett finished in 28:21 and won $200, in her first appearance for ASICS GTC-ELITE after joining the program in September.
This year's event commemorated the original and now historic Governor's Cup Road Race, which was established in 1973. This historic Governor’s Cup 5-mile course started in front of the South Carolina State House and included a grueling climb beginning just after the 3.5 mile point and up the entirety of Saluda Hill, which is nearly a half-mile in length.
GTC-ELITE is sponsored by ASICS, the 43-year old Greenville Track Club, Performance Therapy, Greenville Health System's North Greenville Hospital, ScanSource, Soleus Running Watches, Boston Bill Sunglasses, The TD Bank Foundation, The Kroc Center, Carolina Spine and Rehab, The Proaxis Running Academy, ElliptiGO, the Bare Minimum Track Club and generous individual contributors.
