While many of his teammates were traveling to USA road championships (10-Mile in Minneapolis & Women's 10K in Boston), Steagall ran the 5K cross country event instead of doing a Saturday morning workout solo. He ran with the lead pack, which included Furman standout Aaron Templeton who is redshirting this XC season. Both runners had broken away and established a sizable lead after the second loop of three. The two ran side-by-side for much of the final 600 meters before Steagall opened up a slight gap by the top of the final hill. Steagall finished with a time of 15:24 to Templeton's 15:28 over the historic terrain that has hosted two NCAA National Championships and over 25 NCAA Regional Championships.
