![]() ASICS Greenville Track Club ELITE's Austin Steagall ran a personal best for a 10K on the roads as he won the Lake Murray Dam Run, in Irmo, SC. The current leader in the South Carolina Road Race Rankings ran 30:08 (4:51 per mile) as he won his fourth consecutive competition. It was also the sixth in-state race in 2018 that he was the first South Carolinian. He earned $200 and a crystal award for first place. Greenville area runners took the first four places as James Quattlebaum (30:36) and Frank DeVar (31:21) placed second and third. Steagall's training partner and teammate, Zach Mains, finished fourth with a time of 31:28. GTC-ELITE was established in 2012 and produced four qualifiers for the 2016 USA Olympic Trials Marathon in Los Angeles. ASICS Greenville Track Club-ELITE's Eddie Garcia finished strong over the final stretch to place ninth in the 41st running of the Great Cow Harbor 10K road race in Northport, NY. The 2015 SEC 10,000-meter champion, while at the University of Florida, covered the very hilly and challenging route on Long Island in 30:16. Prize money was awarded to the top ten.
Garcia's new teammate, Victor Pataky, placed 15th with a time of 31:27 in his second race since joining the post-collegiate program in August. The race was won by two-time USA Olympian and the race's defending champion Don Cabral, who ran 29:30. He earned $3000. for the victory. Once again, the scenic event had over 5,500 participants. ASICS Greenville Track Club-ELITE's Austin Steagall leads the South Carolina Road Race Rankings as of September 3, 2018. He has been the first South Carolinian finisher in all five of the the 2018 road races in which he has competed within the state. He won four of those outright and was second overall at the TD Bank Reedy River Run 10K. His win's included: the Greenville News Run Downtown 5K, the Peach Festival 5K, the Michelin Memorial 5K and the Governor's Cup Main Street Mile in Columbia.
